Hosting Is Going COMPLETELY 2FA
The main purpose of the Hosting Service is to provide a secure environment for VT departments to maintain a web presence. It is our responsibility to keep our servers secure, patched, and up to date with the most recent software.
The web hosting service will be moving ALL services behind 2 Factor Authentication on Wednesday, August 2, 2017. We have already moved the Hosting Admin Interface behind 2FA, as well as sites and site directories that require authentication to use. We have been doing this slowly to work out any issues. We have also been working with users and tying up loose ends to prepare for the move of ALL services to 2FA.
WHAT THIS MEANS FOR YOU
-- First - We will be moving our DAV connections to 2FA. In order to use DAV, you will need to have your 2FA set up, and understand how it works. We recommend using Duo Mobile App. Help with using preferred comma delimited options, or Duo for DAV can be found here http://www.hosting.vt.edu/info/hosting2fa.html
-- Second - All users must have a VT PID. We can no longer allow a a user without VT PID. We will be removing that option from the admin interface, and will be clearing out all users without a VT PID. What will need to be used now, is a VT Sponsored PID. You can get information about that here https://secure.hosting.vt.edu/www.arc.vt.edu/2017/07/external-users-must-switch-to-sponsored-accounts/
Please join our google group for Web Hosting Announcements at https://groups.google.com/a/vt.edu/d/forum/hosting-announcements-g. We will use this page to keep you informed about maintenance, upgrades, and general information about our service.
Please put in a ticket using the Support Web App if you have any questions, or problems.
